Are All Entrepreneurs Risk Takers Lets face it, starting a business is a risky endeavor. This is one reason so many people hesitate to do it. It takes guts to give up the security of a steady paycheck to go out and borrow money that you may not be able to pay back or to max out your credit cards and mortgage your house for a business that might not ever get off the ground. Its human nature to want to avoid risk. It usually means venturing out of your comfort zone. Most people like staying their comfort zone. Entrepreneurs cant stay there. They have to take some risks. A persons risk-taking potential is influenced by several factors, including their environment, genetics, and their past experiences comfortzonebook. What gives one person a thrill might make another run for cover. Some adrenaline junkies out there are hard-wired to take risks. You see them climbing up the sides of tall buildings or jumping out of airplanes. But most people are able to manage their risk and are comfortable taking small risks with steady gains to get a nice return on investment. We all have an enzyme in our brains called monoamine oxidase (MAO). This is what keeps our impulses in check. People who have a shortage of it are more likely to be risk takers. So, to answer the question about whether entrepreneurs are risk takers... it depends. Are you someone who always chases after the get rich quick schemes Or do you take calculated risks while seeing into the future and what your business could be if handled correctly If you dont take some risks, youll never know your true potential. In that sense, all entrepreneurs are risk-takers. It just depends on the degree. Some people get stuck in the fear of making any kind of decision because they feel theyll make the wrong one. That can be equally bad because you might just miss that one great opportunity in life. Entrepreneurs have to make decisions every day. comfortzone Make the right decision and you could become very wealthy. Make the wrong one and you could become bankrupt. Its enough to stress out the calmest of us. Its always going to have some uncertainty associated with it. If we could predict the future we would all be rich. A good entrepreneur will learn from the bad decisions and correct them quickly. They will also be less likely to repeat the bad decisions. And they will learn to trust their gut to figure out the right path. Current Mood: dirty | | Thursday, December 29th, 2011 | | 9:41 pm |

Depart From Your Comfort Zone We are all basically creatures of comfort. Anything that contributes to our physical and psychological ease and comfort, we are eager to sign up-whether that is food, clothing, shelter or taking action to improve our quality of life. Our natural tendency is to retreat from making decisions that require us to explore new possibilities. Yet, as uncomfortable as it may be, experiencing discomfort is a necessary evil if we desire to live a fulfilling life. No doubt there are people you admire for their courage and grace, who defied the odds and wouldn't take "no" for an answer in their quest for success. You watch them on TV, read their books, listen to their music and, yes, you live with them and occasionally share lunch with them. You admire them because they make it look easy. You admire them because they're passionate and driven. You admire them because they have a determination that you desperately (and secretly) desire. goal setting One of the habits that I had to break as an entrepreneur was procrastination. The reason I procrastinated is because the action steps needed to accomplish the task would require me to depart from my comfort zone. So, I'd waste precious time and energy strategizing, but not executing my strategy, because that was the difficult part. The notion of being rejected by a corporate executive, extemporaneous television and radio interviews or delivering a keynote speech didn't exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy! But, because I was determined, I pushed through the discomfort to achieve my desired results. Of course, staring at the alternative was a great source of motivation as well! You've heard the phrase, "Your mind plays tricks on you." It is true that fear is generated from our imagination-it's not reality based. There is a genuine fear that helps us detect when we're in harm's way, but most fears are contrived, and keep us from having, doing and being our best. Are there possibilities you've considered but postponed, or abandoned, because the idea of exploring them caused you discomfort Have you reasoned away your truest hopes and dreams because of perceived fears If so, then gain comfort from the fact that yours is not an isolated experience. You and I live in a world where we're surrounded by mediocrity, or the status quo. The few that are able to break the mold and keep pressing forward, do so, not necessarily because they're smarter, but because they've discovered the secret: preparation, determination, like-minded connections and Providence. Do your part and leave the rest to Providence comfortzone. With each barrier that you push through, that same resolve will see you through the next, and the next, and the next! Our past successes equip us to face future challenges with greater confidence. My challenge to you this week is to acknowledge an area in your life that you wish to improve. Then, stop procrastinating, strategizing or making excuses. Begin taking action to change your life for the better. Write it down: PREPARATION + DETERMINATION + LIKE-MINDED CONNECTIONS + PROVIDENCE = RESULTS. Current Mood: giggly | | 9:42 am |
Get Outside Your Comfort Zone Get outside your comfort zone. Yes, we say that again and again, and yes, you need to hear that again and again-as, by the way, do I. We all have a comfort zone-and even if it expands, we still have a comfort zone. Every desire, dream, and ambition that you have not realized lies outside that comfort zone. Everything that you have is within that comfort zone. And as human animals-really, I say human animals, but pretty much it's the same with all animals, as far as we can observe-you need to somekeyword your divinity. And your divinity, not being a regular animal, is that you have got the soul of God inside of you. stop procrastinating Outer circumstances are subservient to you, if you choose to push, if you choose to decide, if you choose to follow through, if you choose to somekeyword the discipline. And that's what I'm talking to you about today. A good friend of mine, Marshall Sylver, always says-and it's so true-"You'll either have discipline or regrets. ". Why do you think there are so many people (and of course, I'm part and parcel of this) who have done extreme somekeyword I know that the day that I decided to jump out of an airplane I had already passed 49.9 years in my life. I didn't really want to jump out of an airplane-I'm talking about with a parachute-but what happened was, I was coming up on the age of 50, and you know all the cultural things about 50. I said, "Whoa! I don't want to buy into being old, I've got to buy into being excited, motivated, charged with life! " comfortzonebook. Now, I don't know what your profession's like, but mine could almost be called an airplane. Or if you want to be exact, an airplane and a hotel. I mean, I work in my office, I work in my home, and that's where I do very deep and profound thinking. But when I'm making presentations, I'm flying to an event, normally, and I'm making a presentation at the event. By the way, I've never gotten over the fear of flying. It's okay-I'm okay to admit it-but when that billboard came up and said, "You're only as big as your biggest fear," bam! I said, "I'm jumping out of an airplane for my 50th birthday." And it worked, because previous to that I was beginning to think, and beginning to feel - cultural biases - that I might be getting old. After that, my whole electrical system was so charged it's not even funny stop procrastinating! I turned young again! Whatever it is for you-in whatever dimension-get outside your comfort zone. Make it a policy, make it a pact, something that -if you can't, you must!- to quote Tony Robbins." What Growth Really Is First before we talk about growth, let's talk about change. Essentially, change as we all know going from one state to another; water to ice, riches to rags, etc. Another way to describe change is the change in size of your comfort zone. Take for example picture one. It is a basic summation of you, which happens to encompass three basic dimensions, body, mind and spirit. With that kept in mind, picture two shows your comfort zone. In this picture, it is represented as the black outline around all three dimensions. In essence, change is the difference in size of the black outline from one point in time to another. (For example, the comparison between picture two and picture three stop procrastinating. One is smaller than the other. ). Now where does growth come into play Well growth is positive change. I don't necessarily mean -good' change when I say positive, but -staying in the positive' rather than the negative. So if we were to represent the black outline as a number, picture two is at a 25 and picture three experienced negative change going down ten points; it only has 15 points. (Don't get caught up in numbers, I just want to show the positive and negative relationship.) If you grow positively, your outline will get bigger and if you grow negatively, your outline will get smaller. One thing to keep in mind is your overall outline is dictated by the size of your dimensions. On a micro level, your dimension comfort zones work the same way as your overall comfort zone. So positive growth in the body dimension means that circle got bigger etc. This tells us that each dimension has its own size and can be different. They are not necessarily equal as depicted in the pictures above. Here is an example: So the whole point of growth is to expand that outline as far as it can go. Simple as that, so how do you achieve this goal Stretching past your comfort zones. Let's say you are afraid to take this crazy hard upper division course because you don't want to put your GPA at risk, but it's apart of your core requirements so there's no other way to get out of this other than dropping out or changing majors. This is an issue of self-confidence. Do you feel confident enough in yourself to keep your GPA in good standing Well in this example obviously not. I would say that an issue like this would fall under the mental category. (This may not seem like it, but keep in mind each dimension has sub-dimensions.) If you decided, -you know what, I want to grow more spiritually,' then one thing you can do is take that class. You will feel scared and uncomfortable, but once you feel that you know that that in itself is growth and you are pushing past your limits. Another example I can use is health. You want to raise your physical health so you decide to work out four days out of the week. Initially it was hard to do, but over a few weeks it became easier and you started enjoying working out. After three weeks you decide to step up your goal to five times a week. Again, in the beginning it's a little harder but nothing you can't handle. Soon after you find working out five times a week is easy as well. Each time you decided to up the anty you were enlarging your dimension(s). comfortzone In this case, I would say that both the body and mental dimensions would apply here. Try and remember to always keep growth in mind because sometimes we don't grow and when we don't grow, we are either stagnant or falling behind. What I mean when I say -falling behind' is negative change. Remember, growth is positive and change is negative. You go up when you grow; you go down when you change. We have all experienced both growth and change. When you find yourself changing, don't get mad. Use it as an opportunity to realize, -hold up. I'm not going in the direction I want to go. I've got to change something.' Once you realize you have to make some tweaks, do them and they'll get you back on track. Think about the mountain analogy. The goal is the peak. If you don't stop every now and then to pay attention to where you're going you are heading off course like this guy: Current Mood: crushed | | Friday, December 23rd, 2011 | | 11:19 am |
Spend the Winter with Comfort Furnace Infrared Heaters There are times you come across some home appliances and you have to stop to take another look. You will be wondering what they are and what they do. The same can be said for the comfort furnace infrared heaters procrastinating. These infrared heaters look like small fridges; they might remind you of small coffee tables on wheels or even of little vending machines comfortzonebook. When you later discover that these stylish heating appliances can keep you warm during the cold season, you will be more than willing to buy one. There is nothing better than being able to buy appliances that will blend in with your existing furniture and home decoration. The comfort furnace infrared heaters are not yet as popular as other electric inserts fireplaces or are they as common as their wall mounted counterparts. Nevertheless, the stylish design and the competitive price will make them really appealing to those with a sense of style. It should be noted that the comfort furnaces are space warmers. You shouldn't buy one, thinking that it will be all you need to heat a three bedroom house. These appliances only come with an output of 5200 BTU. This isn't a lot but it should be enough for small spaces. It will be a misconception to think that buying infrared heaters will be cheaper than natural gas. Anything you connect to the mains outlet uses electricity to generate heat. This ultimately means you will be spending more on heating bills than heating with natural gas. That said, electric heaters are great because they are easy to set up and safer to use in comparison to natural gas. Nevertheless, it is advised that you should not cover any electrical heating device with any form of clothing. Some people might want to quickly dry their washing by placing a piece of garment on an electric heater. This should be avoided as it can cause fires. At the moment, you will not be able to find comfort furnace infrared heaters at every store you walk into. Nevertheless they are easily available online and some retailers offer free shipping or up to 20% discount depending on the time of the year. Say NO to the Status Quo and YES! to Achievement You may not realize it, but you are making choices every day that affect your overall success and achievement procrastinating. Those small choices that you make without much thought are the very choices that can undermine you if you are unaware of them. It is a natural, human tendency to disregard the importance of our everyday choices because the consequences of those choices are delayed. This is why a systems approach to achievement is absolutely essential. This system should be based on your dreams and goals but separated from the self-imposed limitations of your natural, human instincts. The no-change, status-quo of life is instinctively interpreted as security. We instinctively seek a comfort zone in life where nothing will ever change goal setting. The reality is that, although we may desire achievement, we instinctively run from change. An achievement system will actually bypass your natural instincts, thereby making real change possible. As we touched on earlier, your choices have amazing power to shape your future. Achievement can be defined as simply the result of doing the "right things" consistently over a sustained period of time. Doing the "right things" is a direct result of your personal choice. Your future is built on the choices you make, day by day, moment by moment. An attitude can best be defined as a habit of thought. If you do not assume personal responsibility for developing your own effective, positive attitudes, the world around you will shape your attitudes with average thinking, which is usually negative and unproductive. As a result, you become a victim of your own ineffective thinking patterns. On the other hand, positive attitude is simply a predetermined habit of thought dominated by faith, hope, and positive expectancy. Intentionally choosing to maintain an effective, positive attitude will be your most significant lesson in life. Your daily management of the choice of attitude, on a moment-by-moment basis, is a key element in your future achievement. Just like the choice of attitude, action is a choice, and the choices regarding your effective actions require your consistent, daily management. Every day you choose your activities. Those activities will either be effective or ineffective. Effective actions are those predetermined activities that support the accomplishment of your goals. Ineffective actions, on the other hand, are those activities that tend to fill up the daily schedule but are not related to your goals comfortzone. They are usually things that need to be done but are not directly related to your achievement. If you are ever unsure if an action is effective or ineffective, simply look at the product of that action. Effective actions always deliver desirable results! First, don't think of accountability as doing something that you do not want to do or reporting to someone you do not respect. That is a negative connotation, and doesn't apply here. From now on, I want you to think of accountability as a motivational force that will push you beyond your self-imposed limitations, and that is a very good thing! It is important to seek an "outside-in" perspective to bring about the kind of change you need for sustainable achievement and growth. This perspective can come from a mentor or group of people with like-minded interests to whom you choose to be accountable for your goals. Achievement is about moving to the next level of life, about doing things you never dreamed possible. To achieve, you must use all of your creative gifts of imagination, intuition, and choose to counterbalance your instinctive responses to change. You can do this - you just have to CHOOSE to do the work it takes to get there. Start by making the choice to have a positive attitude, complete effective actions, and embrace accountability. Achievement is within reach! Current Mood: good |
